Ship generated waste:
European ports have implemented an indirect fee system based on Marpol Directive 2000/59. Fees within the port of Rotterdam are based on Main Engine Capacity (MEC) which means vessels can dispose of their ship generated waste at almost zero cost. This is explained below:
